This Mother's Cookies Baseball Card is Worth a Lot More Than Most Others

Is this $60 card lurking in your "junk" boxes of baseball cards?

In the video I mentioned that anyone who's been involved with cards, even remotely, has likely had a stack of Mother's Cookies baseball cards.

I’ve since come to learn this is more regional, with most of the sets falling to AL and NL West baseball teams.

So for me in California, I couldn’t escape these cards—those little paper envelopes the sets came in bring back so many memories of digging through old collections.

That said, I recently learned that the 1994 California Angels Bo Jackson card can sell for $50–$60. Other than the 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. Mariners cards, I didn’t know that any of these held much value in raw form.

This is one sneaky valuable card, so I’m adding it to the running list!

Armed with that knowledge, I set out to find one and actually managed to buy one for just over $4.

I listed it on eBay and sold it for $60 pretty quickly, netting around $51 after fees.

I can’t say for certain why this particular card is worth so much, but a couple of things come to mind.

First, it’s part of a stadium giveaway set, so these cards were limited to the people who attended the game on the day they were distributed.

Second, Bo Jackson wasn’t on the California Angels for very long, making it a unique piece of his career.

I’m still digging to uncover any other reasons. I’ve wondered if the strike-shortened season in 1994 might have played a role, and I’m trying to get my hands on a 1994 California Angels promotional schedule to determine exactly when these were given away.

All that said, if you have Mother's Cookies cards at home, if you're browsing boxes at a card shop, or if you come across these cards online for a good price, now you know they can be worth a lot more than you might have realized.
